Maps
- Sea Star Map
- display observations of sick and healthy sea stars by species across all sites visited by researchers, community science groups, and the general public
- Introduced Species Map
- display observations of seaweeds that have been introduced to coastal and island reefs of California across all sites visited by researchers, community science groups, and the general public
Graphs
- Site Map and Graphing Tool
- Create custom, downloadable graphs from Biodiversity (site-wide percent cover and density), Long-Term Survey data (percent cover, counts, and size structure within fixed plots), or Water Temperature data.

Data Files Available for Downloading
Long-term Survey data for most species at a subset of sites can be downloaded after completing a brief data request form. If you are requesting data from sites within the National Park System you will also need to fill out a research permit. Data for sites not included, for species of concern, and for Biodiversity Surveys are available by request. Please refer to our Data Assets and Use Guidelines document for information about the types of data collected and guidance on data usage.
Archived Photos of Fixed-Location Plots
At each of our long-term monitoring sites, photos are taken annually or semi-annually of every permanently marked plot located within target species assemblages. There are typically 5 replicate 50 x 75 cm “photo plots” within each assemblage, and most sites have 2-5 target assemblages (for a total of 10-25 photos per survey). This collection of archived photos, spanning several decades in many locations, is now stored in a searchable database. Access to photos can be requested using our data request form.
Data Use Statement
Please acknowledge MARINe in all publications containing these data. Because MARINe is a consortium of different groups, please also acknowledge the research groups that collected these data and the funding partners associated with these data, by using a statement similar to the example below:
‘This study utilized data collected by the Multi-Agency Rocky Intertidal Network (MARINe): a long-term ecological consortium funded and supported by many groups. Please see the complete list of MARINe partners responsible for monitoring and funding these data.
