Mussel Flat SE Farallon is located in the North Central Coast region of California on Southeast Farallon Island, within the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. This site is located within the Southeast Farallon Island State Marine Reserve and Special Closure. This site is also located in an Area of Special Biological Significance (Farallon Islands ASBS) and is contiguous with Farallon Islands National Wildlife Refuge, which is closed to the public. This moderately sloping site consists of moderately uneven terrain, containing few cracks and folds. This area is an established harbor seal rookery and pinniped haul-out.
Mussel Flat SE Farallon is dominated by bedrock and the area surrounding the site is comprised of consolidated bedrock. The primary coastal orientation of this site is southwest.
Long-Term Monitoring Surveys at Mussel Flat SE Farallon were established in 2018 and are done by Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary.
Biodiversity Surveys were done by University of California Santa Cruz in 2005 and 2017. The Biodiversity Survey grid encompasses one section that is approximately 30 meters (along shore) x 15 meters (seaward). Click here to view Biodiversity Survey findings at this site.
