Dead Sea Lion Flat
Dead Sea Lion Flat is located in the North Central Coast region of California on Southeast Farallon Island, within the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. This site is located within the Southeast Farallon Island State Marine Reserve and Special Closure. This site is also located in an Area of Special Biological Significance (Farallon Islands ASBS). This gently sloping site consists of moderately uneven terrain, containing few cracks and folds.
Dead Sea Lion Flat is dominated by a mixture of consolidated bedrock and boulder fields, and the area surrounding the site is comprised of a mixture of consolidated bedrock and boulder fields. The primary coastal orientation of this site is north-northwest.
Long-Term Monitoring Surveys at Dead Sea Lion Flat were established in 2018 and are done by Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. Long-Term MARINe surveys currently target the following species: Endocladia (Turfweed), Pisaster (Ochre Star), and Phyllospadix (Surfgrass).
