American Camp Long-Term trends

American Camp is located in the Washington Salish Sea and is within San Juan Island National Historical Park. This moderately sloping site consists of moderately uneven terrain, containing a few cracks and folds.

American Camp is dominated by consolidated bedrock, and the area surrounding the site is comprised of consolidated bedrock, boulder fields, and sandy beach.

Long-Term Monitoring Surveys at American Camp were established in 2009, and are done by Olympic National Park. Long-Term monitoring surveys currently target the following species: Chthamalus/Balanus (Acorn Barnacles), Semibalanus (Thatched Barnacle), and Pisaster (Ochre Star). Biodiversity Surveys were done in 2025. The Biodiversity Survey grid encompasses one sections that is approximately 20 meters (along shore) x 15 meters (seaward).
